The focus of the Bear River Band program is to develop the student’s musical skills with daily work on the following: 1) improvement in music reading and technical facility on an instrument; 2) refinement of tone; 3) learning to play as a member of an ensemble; 4) improvement in understanding of music theory including composition and arranging; 3) gaining an appreciation for the aesthetic value of music and other arts; and 4) overall development as a complete musician including listening skills, historical knowledge, critical thinking, good citizenship, mutual respect, leadership, teamwork, and public performance. The importance of the individual to the success of the team is such that attendance and participation are essential to the learning process. The end result of that learning process is the performance of the music for an audience, and it is an experience that cannot be duplicated in any other way. Performances are vital to the success of the music program.
Band is: teamwork, dedication, commitment, fun, creativity, multi-disciplinary, life-long, character-building, fulfilling, art, beauty, and friendship. When band becomes a team to the student - when band becomes a family - these other facets come alive to him and to her.
