2016/2017 Band Handbook

Student Leadership

Being a leader is an action, not a title. We all lead those around us by everything we do (and don't do). It is expected that each member of the Band act in such a way that would lead to the musical excellence of the ensemble and the growth and well-being of its members. Again - you lead by doing.

Every Junior or Senior member of the Band who has participated for at least one year prior (as well as all Section Leaders, regardless of year in school) is a member of our Student Leadership Team (SLT). This is a group that will meet semi-regularly with the furthering of the Band's Mission and Vision in mind. From year to year, the SLT will decide if we will use elected positions as well. Elected positions of leadership in the band will first be drawn from this group, by popular vote of the entire ensemble. Some positions are appointed by the director. All officer terms are for the entire school year.

Want to be a Student Leader??

An audition process is held each spring and more information will be posted as those dates are set. You can prepare for the audition process throughout the year by demonstrating leadership qualities, a desire to learn, superior conduct, and a strong work ethic. Volunteer for various tasks and take the initiative to help others improve the band.
